Kozhikode Tourist Places
Vellari Mala
Vellarimala forms a part of a high hill range of what is otherwise known as Camel's Hump Mountains, a part of the Western Ghats. Most of the hill range falls in the Meppadi Forest Range of South Wayanad Division, with some parts falling in the Thamarassery Range of Kozhikode Division. Vellari Mala is part of the popular Camel's Hump Mountains of the Western Ghats. The tallest peak in this range is called Vavul Mala and is situated an altitude of 2339 m. Vellari Mala is a trekker's paradise but it is also a great picnic spot for a relaxing experience with family and friends.
Thusharagiri Waterfall
Caressed in the folds of the Western Ghats is the picturesque Thusharagiri Waterfalls. Lying 50 km from Kozhikode, the Thusharagiri Waterfalls comprises Erattumukku, Mazhavil Chattom, and Thumbithullum Para which can be reached through trekking. Thusharagiri or 'mist-capped peaks' gets its name from the beautiful silvery crown formed at the mountain top due to the waterfalls. Nature here will transport to a different dimension where time itself comes to a standstill.
Thikkoti Light House
Thikkoti Lighthouse, one of the most amusing monuments of Calicut, is situated in a small village named Thikkoti. Located at a distance of about 30 km from the city of Calicut, this historical monument attracts tourists and visitors around the year.
kozhikode Uru
Uru Shipyards are the majestic ship making arenas in Beypore near Kozhikode. The shipyards are popular for manufacturing huge Dhow-type wooden ships (also known as •Fat shipsê) with a bulging belly. The shipyard is in a coastal area and the adjacent part of the ocean is frequented by beautiful dolphins which is an added attraction for the tourists.
Parapally Beach
Parappalli Beach is a surf spot. Parappalli is situated on the rock hills of Kollam beach, near Koyilandy, in the district. There is a mosque near by parappalli beach. Parappalli mosque is one of the most prominent mosques of Sunnis with a history of over 500 years, has become a pilgrim centre for the believers of all communities from around the country and abroad.
Payyoli Beach
Payyoli is one of the most outstanding tourist spots in this region with several thousands of tourists visiting the beach every week. The beach is ideal for water sports and sun-bath. The beach has a stretch of coconut palm trees which enhances the beauty of this lovely beach. This is a good place for swimming. Trikkottur Perumalpuram Temple is nearby attraction. This is the home town of India's sprint queen P.T Usha.
Peruvannamuzhi Dam
The Peruvannamuzhi Dam, set amidst the backdrop of majestic Western Ghats, is a breath-taking picnic spot. This area forms a part of the Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary and is home to several wild animals. The beautiful dam site is situated 60 km from Kozhikode town in Kerala and is known for its charming uninhabited islands. The place is also known for a Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre, Bird Sanctuary and Crocodile Farm. There are also numerous trekking and boating options to be availed.
Kozhikode Beach
Kozhikode Beach is the favourite spot for all those who enjoy watching the setting sun. It is also a prime location for seafood lovers as it provides a wide variety of delicacies such as the famous ‘Kallummakaya’ (mussels). Dolphin’s point is a rewarding tourist spot where you might witness the mesmerizing sight of playful dolphins. In addition to this, is the old lighthouse, the ancient piers and the Lion’s park for children.
Kappad Beach
Kappad Beach has historically played an important role in the history of Kerala. On these shores, over 500 years ago in 1498, 170 men led by Vasco- da-Gama first stepped onto Kerala. The entire State, especially the Malabar Coast, would never be the same again.

Kozhippara Falls
This is an enchanting scenic spot in the high ranges of Malappuram. Located near Kozhippara, the place is covered by mist all through the day. The waterfall is located on the Chokkad stream. Kozhippara waterfalls is an ideal location for trekking and swimming in Kerala. It is one of the best waterfalls, which offer plenty of opportunites to adventure enthusiast, who like to explore this spectacular destination. Kakadam Poyil, mostly engulfed in mist is a beautiful spot in the vicinity.
Mananchira Square
Fed by a natural shower, Mananchira is a man-made freshwater pond surrounding which is the astounded complex, Mananchira Square. The pond was built in around 14th century as a bathing pool by the feudal ruler of Kozhikode, Zamorin Mana Vikrama whereas the Mananchira Square was opened in 1994. Previously, the Square was known as Manachira Maidan and was famous for football. It was a host of many matches as well. Today, it is an architectural glimpse in the middle of the city with its open theater, fabulous landscaped lawns, and musical fountains. Tourists visit here to spend a fantastic evening time amidst the meticulous beauty of park embellished with lush green trees. The serenity of the pristine water gives a soothing effect.
Kozhikode Backwaters
As the boat slowly cruises on the placid waters of Kozhikode backwaters, you have a lovely sailing experience along the Canoli River and Kallai River. Beypore
Beypore beach is an ideal beach destination for tourists as well as of historians. Located at the mouth of river Chaliyar about 10 kilometres away from Kozhikode town (Calicut) in Kerala, Beypore was a port of trade and maritime centre in the olden ages. This ancient port had witnessed much trade and transactions of the Arabian merchants from West Asia, Chinese travellers and later Europeans with the local dealers here. One of the major attractions of this place is the existence of the 1,500 years old tradition of shipbuilding industry.
Elathur Beach

Deepanjali Lamp Museum
Deepanjali Lamp Museum is possibly the only lamp museum of India. Located in Puthiyangadi, Kozhikode, the museum houses an extensive collection of lamps dating back to the 19th century including primitive brass lamps, wick lamps, indian heritage lamps, gas lamps, cart lamps etc. More than hundreds of lamps and lights can be seen here. In Deepanjali, you could see traditional lamps like Kallu Vilakku, Chirathu, Paala Vilakku,Kindi Vilakku and Kuthu Vilakku. There are lamps carved out of stone, metal, and wood.
Mittai Theruvu
A walk through Kozhikode’s Mittai Theruvu is an experience by itself. Bustling with activity and christened with a delectable name by itself Mittai Theruvu is a must do when in Kozhikode. The street derives its name from the times when the shops along this particular street were lined with shops selling the famed ‘Kozhikoden Halwa’ or ‘Sweet Meat. Today the scenario is a little different. The shops lining this street now sell anything and everything from sweets, spices, electronics, handlooms, textiles to almost anything one can think of. Artefacts made of rosewood and buffalo horns sit sharing space with all other coir products including floor mats, brushes, snake boat toys etc which are quite popular with visitors to this side of town.
